Obituary for Virgil Spicer
Virgil Spicer, age 64, of Canoe Road, Jackson, Kentucky went home to be with his Heavenly Father Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, Kentucky after a short illness.
Virgil was born in Jackson, Kentucky, May 2, 1951 to the late Green and Sarah Little Spicer. He was a retired Kentucky State Highway employee. Most importantly, Virgil had committed his life to Christ, had been baptized into the Christian faith and was ready to go home.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Spicer of Jackson, Kentucky; one daughter, Lisa Marie (Justin) McClees; two grandchildren, Gage and Breelyn McClees, all of Jackson, Kentucky; two sisters, Gertrude (Ike) Jett of Florence, Kentucky; Shirley (Burnam) Spencer of Canoe, Kentucky; one paternal uncle, James R. Fugate of Canoe, Kentucky; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Virgil enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, camping and fishing, and spent time in his retirement years at Cave Run Lake with close friends, especially cousin, Granville Lynn Hollan. He also trained hunting dogs at his home along the Middle Fork River at Canoe and spent many hours in his later years with grandson, Gage caring for the land where he was reared.
Virgil’s funeral will be held at the Watts Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson, Kentucky, at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016 with Hirley Smith Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in the Ned Spicer Cemetery at Canoe, Kentucky with Virgil’s cousins serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers, James R. Fugate, Tim Spencer, Jim Spicer, Ray Roark, Lenox Cornett, George C. Boggs, Ron Easter, Tony Gilbert, Ed Whitley, Ike Jett, Gary Salyers, Randall Stevens, Denver Gilbert and sons, and Eddie Turner.
