Obituary for Wilgus Reed Thomas
Wilgus Reed Thomas, age 86, of Richmond , KY; formerly of Breathitt Co, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017.
Reed was born on January 01, 1931 to the Late Isaac Shelby Thomas and Lora Clay Thomas. He was a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant, Korean War Veteran, Vietnam War Veteran, and former Falcon Coal employee.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years Helga (Schwarz) Thomas of Richmond, KY; one daughter, Petra (Shubert) Dorman and husband Gale Dorman of Richmond, KY; one son, Clay Wilgus (Jennifer) Thomas of Georgetown, KY; one granddaughter, Olivia Thomas of Georgetown, KY; three grandsons, Joshua (Jamie) Dorman of Kansas City, Jordan Thomas of Georgetown, KY, and Justin Thomas of Georgetown, KY; one sister, Mary Hazel Thomas "Mickie" Turner of Jackson, KY; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Isaac Shelby Thomas and Lora Clay Thomas, Reed was preceded in death by brothers, Chester Thomas, Dexter Thomas, and Clay Thomas; and sisters, Hila Campbell, Julie Back, and Meredith Howard.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Watts Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson, KY at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 with Pat Turner officiating. Military Rites prior to services with Dav Chapter #64 of Hazard, Kentucky. Reed will be laid to rest in the Haddix Cemetery Inc. of Haddix, KY. Friends may visit the funeral home after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2017, with Eastern Star service beginning at 7:00 p.m.
