Obituary for Martin Dee Vance
Martin Dee Vance, age 85, of Stamper Fork, Jackson, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky.
Martin was born on January 2, 1932 to the late John Dee and Elvira “Vira” (Graves) Vance. He was a member of the Turkey Creek Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for several years. He worked at several jobs in his lifetime, among them were a skilled wood worker on many different saws, a butcher, and a farmer, who loved flowers and enjoyed giving farming tips to others. Martin was also a skilled guitarist who enjoyed singing with his wife and others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jacqueline Smith Vance of Jackson, Kentucky; five daughters, Roseann (Jeff) Davennport of Somerset, Kentucky; Velma Louise Newsome of Somerset, Kentucky; Barbara Vance of Cincinnati, Ohio; Marvelene Glee (Rob) Mudd of Lexington, Kentucky; and Martina Vance of Jackson, Kentucky; one son, Clint Gene (Brenda) Vance of Lexington, Kentucky; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; three sisters, Iva Dean Vance of Indianapolis, Indiana; Glee Crowder of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Wathalyne Payne of Somerset, Kentucky; and a host of many other loving relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, John Dee and Elvira Vance, Martin was preceded in death by three infant grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Kaye “Kitty” Wall.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Watts Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson, Kentucky at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 with David Caudill officiating. Martin will be laid to rest in the Fern Valley Smith Family Cemetery at Canoe, Kentucky. Friends may visit the funeral home after 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017.
