Obituary for Herbert Hoover Strong
Herbert Hoover Strong, age 86, of Ypsilanti Township, Michigan passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with his loving family at his side.
He was born March 18, 1930 in Beckley, West Virginia, a son of the late George and Rosa (Walker) Strong. Mr. Strong was honorably discharged from the United States Army where he served during the Korean War. On July 3, 1951 he married Lillie Haddix in Jackson, Kentucky and she survives. Mr. Strong retired from General Motors Willow Run after 20 years of service. He will always be remembered for his love of bass fishing, painting, and wood working.
In addition to his wife, Lillie, he is survived by his children: Delta (James) Stokes, Herbert (Felicia) Strong, and Betty (Tara Rodgers) Strong; grandchildren: James (Kimberly) Stokes, Chad (Meaghan) Strong, and Michael (Samantha) Marcum; great grandchildren: Connor, Piper and Cole; three brothers: James Strong, Robert Strong, and Oscar Strong; one sister: Thelma Spicer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rosa Strong; brother, Jeffrey Strong; and sister, Pauline Bush.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Watts Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson, Kentucky at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 with Bobby Hollon officiating. Mr. Strong will be laid to rest in the Haddix Cemetery Inc. at Haddix, Kentucky with Herbert Strong, Chad Strong, Michael Marcum, James Stokes Sr., James Stokes Jr. and Tyler Chilcutt serving as pallbearers. Friends may visit the funeral home after 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016. Military Rites at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
