Obituary for Avis Sims
Avis Sims, age 86, of Vancleve, Kentucky, beloved wife of the late Ralph D. Sims Sr., passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care in Hazard, Kentucky.
Avis was born on October 29, 1929 to the late Alex and Pruda (Turner) Trent. She was a retired employee of General Motors.
She is survived by three daughters, Dizie Alice (Jerry) Fields of Franklin, Ohio; Thresia Alane (Ronnie) Reynolds of Alturas, Florida; and Betty Jo Combs of Dayton, Ohio; two sons, Dewell Lee Sims of Vancleve, Kentucky; and Anthony (Antoinette) Sims of Winter Haven, Florida; one sister, Cleotsia Banks of Winchester, Kentucky; 99 grandchildren and great grandchildren; one special granddaughter, Carrie Gibbs of Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Ralph D. Sims Sr., and parents, Alex and Pruda Trent, Avis was also preceded in death by sons, Captain Alex Sims, Larry Wayne Sims, and Ralph Sims Jr.; brothers, Pryce Trent, Ova Trent, and Vance Trent; sisters, Carrie Shockey and Illar Puckett.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Watts Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson, Kentucky at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 with David McIntosh officiating. Avis will be laid to rest in the Jackson Cemetery in Jackson, Kentucky with her family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may visit the funeral home after 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016.
